In Rehearsal
Twain's Tales - This collection includes five short stories by the master American storyteller -- "The Celebrated Jumping Frog of Calaveras County," "Science vs. Luck," "The Joke That Made Ed's Fortune," "The Belated Russian Passport" and "Is He Living or Is He Dead?" -- as well as the fence-painting chapter from The Adventures of Tom Sawyer. The play takes place on the front porch of a general store in what could be Hannibal, Missouri in the late 1800s. The five locals -- the storekeeper and his wife, a printer, a reporter and a riverboat pilot -- spend the morning entertaining each other by seeing who can spin the tallest tale. In his own lifetime, Samuel Clemens held all four of these occupations, and his ability as a storyteller may very well have been born while listening to such individuals spinning their yarns at the general store. As the narratives unfold, the storytellers, written in the tradition of story theatre, become the characters in the tales. Or, if you prefer, you may modify the script to have Twain's story characters played by separate actors to accommodate your larger cast. No matter how you choose to stage it, Twain's razor-sharp wit and ability to expose our human foibles make this play more than just entertainment. If you have any questions or want to be involved, inquire with the director Janice Grant at 352-221-1418 or stagecrazi@yahoo.com. This show runs July 23 - August 1.
Our Mission
Suwannee Valley Players is the only community theatre serving Levy, Dixie and Gilchrist counties (Florida, USA), providing a variety of live theatrical productions for our audiences and participants.
The mission of the Suwannee Valley Players is twofold:
To Bring Quality Live Entertainment to the Tri-County Area
We are committed to providing our community with cultural opportunities. With plays like 1776, Annie, and Oklahoma!, we learn more about our country's history. Plays such as The Wizard of Oz, Twelve Angry Men, The Crucible, Little Women, and The Secret Garden explore great works of literature.
To Educate the Community in the Area of the Fine Arts of the Theatre
We teach many aspects of theatre craft and welcome any member of the community to join, learn and help in our shows. Over the years, we have watched "our kids" develop confidence, poise, and social skills even beyond those of their peers.
Members of the Board
Susan's most recent involvement includes directing
The God Committee and
Romeo & Juliet. She is also remembered from last season's
Misconceptions and for her roles as Winifred in
Once Upon a Mattress, Aunt March in
Little Women, and Ms. Madrigal in
The Chalk Garden. She now makes her musical directing debut with
The Phantom of the Op'ry.
Janice has been a part of SVP since 2007, and with her daughter's involvement, it has become a home away from home. She has assisted in directing in two plays Romeo & Juliet and Treasure Island and got her feet wet directing and acting in Misconceptions. In addition to being on the stage, she has worked backstage on a number of shows. Janic has had roles in The Right to Remain Silent, Romeo & Juliet, A Nice Family Gathering, Misconceptions, and The God Committee.
Linda Hagan, Secretary/Contributions Chair
Linda is a long-time veteran with SVP and a welcome returning member. She has been involved in too many shows to count and has served on various board positions including President in past years. She directed Not a Creature Was Stirring (Not Even a Moose), The Butler Did It. She also directed the children's summer show Treasure Island and the classic The Seven Year Itch.
Louise Perras, Treasurer/Building Projects Chair
Louise frequents the backstage area as stage manager. It just wouldn't be a show without Louise behind the scenes making sure everything runs smoothly and is in its proper place. With no desire to be in front of the curtain, she has made her mark as stage manager for The Odd Couple, The Hobbit, The Secret Garden, The Wizard of Oz, Harvey and Charley's Aunt to name a few.
Peggy Rowe, Board Member-at-Large
Mike Taylor, Board Member-at-Large
Mike joined SVP's production of Treasure Island helping backstage. He has been a member since 2008 and enjoys building, set design and construction.
General Membership
Emily Baker
Emily is currently a senior at Chiefland High School, and the thought of going away to college and leaving SVP for a vast period of time is making her homesick already. Since the summer of 2003, she can't keep herself away. Want to know the shows she's been in? Just look at the wall in the lobby and you're bound to see her everywhere. Haha.
Kirstin Cunningham
Josh Davis
Kelci Grant
Kelci has been in several SVP productions since she convinced her mom, Janice Grant, in 2007 that she wanted to participate. Kelci is a senior at Bell High School. Upon graduation, she wants to go to the University of Florida.

Elizabeth has served as photographer and keeper of the show archives for several years as well as President, Secretary, and Board member. She enjoys music, song writing, creative writing, graphic arts, photography, and traveling to new places. She debuted with SVP in The Sound of Music in 1989 and has enjoyed being involved in many shows since then including her favorite productions Godspell and The Fiddler on the Roof. In the past few years, she has ventured into administrative matters including assistant/music director with Godspell and The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, and even actually directing with Little Women and Grease.
Marjorie frequently is content to work behind the scenes as long as it's not backstage. She enjoys lending a hand wherever needed and cheering the actors on. She previously served on the Board, and we are glad to have her with us in this office. She keeps busy, now that she is retired. She enjoys traveling with her husband, spending time with her grandchildren, and directing choir at Bronson United Methodist Church.
Alix's debut role at SVP was in Romeo & Juliet as Nurse followed by A Nice Family Gathering where she portrayed Jill. Other theatrical performances include The Noodle Doodle Box, Meet Me in St. Louis, and A Midsummer Night's Dream. Alix also had a brief role in the horror movie The Gainesville Ripper (an Empty Bottle-Loaded Gun Production).
Krystle first got involved with SVP in Little Women, when she got the role of Meg. From the beginning, she was hooked! Throughout her involvement with SVP, she has completed her A.A. in Theatre and been in many memorable productions, making friends and memories along the way. One of her favorite roles to play was the "beautiful loving daughter" (Diana) in Dracula's Widow. But she has broken typecasting by being Lash (a punk rocker) in The Right to Remain Silent and Stacey, the pregnant lesbian from A Nice Family Gathering. "Thanks to all my wonderful friends in the theater and the ones outside the theater that I usually volunteer at some point or another. SVP has definitely been my second home!"
