The Nerd

Comedy/Farce by Larry Shue

Now an aspiring young architect in suburbia, Willum Cubbert has often told his friends about the debt he owes to Rick Steadman, a fellow ex-GI whom he has never met but who saved his life in Vietnam .  He has written to Rick to say that, as long as he is alive, "You will have somebody on Earth who will do anything for you" -- so Willum is delighted when Rick shows up unexpectedly at his home on the night of his 34th birthday party.  But, his delight soon fades as it becomes apparent that Rick is a hopeless bumbling oaf with no social sense, little intelligence, and less tact.  Rick's continued presence among Willum and his friends leads to one uproarious incident after another, until the normally placid Willum finds himself contemplating violence, a dire development which, happily, is staved off  by the surprising twist ending of the play.

We are always interested in hearing from people in the community who enjoy being on stage or have a desire to "get their feet wet" in acting. If you don’t want to act on stage but want to be involved, come to a general membership meeting every third Monday at 7pm or watch for audition dates for upcoming shows so that you can speak with the director. Tickets can be purchased in advance from the director or cast members of the show, or SVIC ticket outlet on Hwy 19, Chiefland, or one half hour before performances at the box office at The Chief Theatre.
